Göteborg road trip plan

Oslo to Gothenburg: 3-to-4-Day Family Road Trip Plan
Designed for: 4–6 Adults & 1 Infant (4 months old)
Transport: Car (Driving from Oslo, Norway)
Timing: Late June / Early July (Summer)
🚗 Road Trip Logistics & Infant Safety
Driving from Oslo to Gothenburg (~290 km, approx. 3.5 hours of active driving) offers excellent flexibility for a larger group with an infant. However, traveling with a 4-month-old requires specific precautions:
[!WARNING] Car Seat Limits (The 2-Hour Rule): Pediatric guidelines strongly advise that infants under 6 months should not spend more than 1.5 to 2 hours at a time in a car seat. Plan for at least one major 45-minute stop during the drive to take the baby out of the seat to stretch, feed, and play.
🅿️ Group Travel & Parking in Gothenburg
- Vehicles: For 4–6 adults, you will likely need two cars or a large 7-seater minivan to accommodate all passengers, luggage, and bulky baby gear (stroller, diaper bags, travel crib).
- Gothenburg Parking: Parking in central Gothenburg can be expensive and difficult. We highly recommend booking accommodation that includes private, secure parking. If visiting the Southern Archipelago (Day 2), use the large long-term parking lot at Saltholmen or, even better, leave the cars at your accommodation and take public transit (Tram 11) to the ferry terminal.

🏠 Accommodation Recommendation for 4-6 Adults + Infant
With a larger group and an infant, booking a single apartment or house is much more convenient than separate hotel rooms:
- Linné / Majorna: Quiet, residential neighborhoods with quick access to Slottsskogen Park, local bakeries, and central trams. Many apartments here are family-friendly.
- Mölndal: Located just south of the city. Booking a larger villa here is often more affordable, parking is much easier, and it is very close to Gunnebo House and the highway back to Oslo.
